The four tracks you can sample are described by Phil and Tobias as follows:-
- Bele Aelis (1,180KB)
...is an innovative adaption of the melody from a song that was popular amongst medieval troubadours: 'Main se leva la Bele Aelis'. The piece is a masterful celebration of the acoustic trance sound that Phil & Tobias are moving towards; & contains elements of Indian influence & American minimalism.
- Elderflower Wine (1,266Kb)
... is a piece of English soul music; inspired by campfire scenes in late summer & the home-brewed wine of the title. The song highlights Tobias & Phil's ability to interweave soulful shapes & sounds and create their unique interlocking guitar patterns. Amongst its influences are the British fingerstyle guitar tradition and introspective singer/songwriters like Nick Drake.
- Bellamy Blues (1,534Kb)
...is written and performed by Phillip Henry on lapslide guitar and described by Henry as an old school, good time breakdown.
- See my brother's a sailor too (1,499Kb)
...Tobias' fascination with English balladry is attested to on this piece as well as the tradition of the protest singer. It is essentially an anti-war song & is rated high amongst a collection of songs opposing the Iraq war, listed on Neil Youngs 'Living With War' website (www.neilyoung.com/lwwtoday).
